Well, it a simple definite path really... go to school... do reasonably well to get into engineering school for the course of your choice... don't screw it up, do well enough to get into a Masters program/ a PhD program that allows you to becoming a smashing 'Doctor' :D
 Thing is, most universities these days offer all sorts of packages where you get to receive a Masters by doing an extra year on top of the basic Engineering Bachelors degree. Whereas some offer the fabulous Masters qualification for the first year or two spent completing your PhD!
Fact of the matter is the road gets shorter and shorter. Choices are of abundance. People get there faster than expected! The thing they don't tell you is... the faster you go, the tougher the road is... What works against us is, the lack of experience with people that have work and academic experience.
So hang in there & hold on to your socks...
